The Power of Microneedling

June 17, 2019 by Pinnacle Dermatology

Microneedling

A beautiful complexion can get you a lot of compliments at any age. When your skin looks and feels soft and smooth, it can be a major self-confidence booster. Microneedling is one of the hottest skin care trends of the moment, but when you think about the procedure, it may seem a bit strange. During the cosmetic treatment, a unique beauty device makes tiny punctures in your skin. This is done on purpose to get your skin cells to react and begin the healing process by making new collagen and tissue. This, in turn, creates a stronger skin foundation.

A Very Effective Technology

There are a variety of skin care procedures available that are all designed to rejuvenate the complexion, but some involve a lengthy session and a long recovery. Microneedling doesn’t require surgery or much if any downtime. It is also considered as powerful as laser resurfacing, intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy, or a series of strong chemical peels.

The microneedling device looks like a pen of sorts and comes equipped with multiple tiny needles at varying lengths. Your aesthetic technician gently rolls the pen over your face as the needles begin puncturing the skin.

Different needles on the microneedling device address your individual needs. For example, longer needles are used to treat acne and/or acne scarring while shorter needles are suited for improving wrinkles and aging skin. Regardless of the type of skin blemish you are trying to correct, we have a treatment method that will work.

Pairs Well with Other Treatments

Microneedling performs nicely with other skin care treatments, especially topical ones. The treatment is doubly effective when combined with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) because the duo enhances the penetration and action of the skin cells. The procedure also works well with the application of Retin-A or vitamin C serum.

Microneedling is excellent at skin firming as new collagen, elastin and capillaries naturally develop as the skin heals from the tiny puncturing. According to skin care experts, it is recommended that you begin with three treatments that are spaced four to six weeks apart.

Microneedling might appear bizarre, but the science of wound healing is real and can create impressive skin rejuvenation.
