Say Goodbye to Unwanted Body Hair with Laser Hair Removal

April 4, 2016 by Pinnacle Dermatology

laser hair removal

When it comes to personal grooming, there are plenty of different ways to remove unwanted body hair. You can use a razor, special thread, depilatory cream, wax or even a pair of tweezers to carefully remove hair. All of these methods have two enormous drawbacks: they are only temporary and they can be harsh to sensitive skin. If you’re interested in a permanent solution, laser hair removal can give you the smooth look you want without an ongoing commitment of time and money. In addition, you can put nicks, chemical burns and ingrown hairs behind you for good.

Preparing for Laser Treatment

The laser targets the root of the hair under the skin. For this reason, there needs to be hair in the follicles for it to work. Do not wax, pluck or otherwise pull out hair for at least two weeks before your laser treatment. If you need to groom, shaving is acceptable because it leaves the hair root untouched.

The Laser Hair Removal Process

Most clients are treated every few weeks for multiple treatments. Multiple treatments are necessary because all of our hair is not in an active growth cycle at the same time. The laser can only treat hair follicles that are actively growing at the time of the treatment. Inactive follicles are unaffected by laser. Treatments are usually short in length and you can go right back to your normal routine immediately afterward, as long as you protect your skin from the sun.

Individualized Treatment

Laser is not a one-size-fits-all solution. If you simply want to thin the amount of hair that grows on any given area instead of removing it all, discuss this with our practitioner. It’s also possible to create natural-looking edges to hair, which is great for men who want a permanent edge to their beards or women who just want the bikini line treated without removing all of the pubic hair. The vast majority of people tolerate laser treatments quite well, but, as with any cosmetic procedure, it’s not right for everyone. This is why it is important to discuss your unique situation with our professionals.
