Look and Feel Years Younger with a BOTOX Treatment

November 16, 2015 by Pinnacle Dermatology

botox

You’ve probably heard of BOTOX® and know it’s a cosmetic procedure meant to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Having a widely accepted and successful cosmetic treatment like BOTOX® could lead to you looking and feeling years younger.

Common Treatment Areas

Injection of BOTOX® actually blocks certain chemical signals from reaching the nerves of the treated area. When the signals do not reach their destination, the muscles are prevented from contracting, allowing them to relax and release the wrinkle.

Areas that are commonly targeted with BOTOX® treatment include crow’s feet around the eyes, forehead furrows and frown lines between the eyebrows.

Side Effects and Risks

BOTOX® treatment is quite safe. Possible side effects can include headache or temporary bruising at the injection site.

BOTOX® should not be performed on women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

What to Expect

At your consultation, let the doctor know if you have received any kind of treatment with BOTOX® within the previous four months.

It’s also important to know that patients taking blood thinners may need to stop taking them a few days before treatment to minimize the potential for bruising. Also, disclose if you are on muscle relaxants, allergy medication or sleep aids.

There is little discomfort involved in treatment, and many require no anesthetic. However, numbing with a topical cream, injection or cold spray are possibilities. A very thin needle is used to inject BOTOX® into the designated area. How many injections you will need depend on the area to be treated.

You can expect to return to normal activities immediately following your BOTOX® treatment, as there is no downtime. You will need to take care that you don’t rub or irritate the treated areas. You won’t see immediate results. It takes a few days for the medicine to begin to work. Results can last anywhere from three to 12 months, and regular follow-up injections will be necessary if you wish to maintain results.

BOTOX® treatment is a popular and safe procedure for those wishing to diminish fine lines and wrinkles from the face. It’s a convenient method if you’re hoping to look younger or get a confidence boost.

Contact Pinnacle Dermatology today to schedule a consultation. We are dedicated to helping patients meet their cosmetic goals and will be happy to help you, too. We will be able to determine if BOTOX® will benefit your needs and work with you to develop a treatment plan right for you.
