IPL for Broken Capillaries

February 15, 2016 by Pinnacle Dermatology

IPL treatment

People make lasting first impressions based on what they see. Over time, a person may be able to take steps to change the first impression that others have of them, but as the saying goes, first impressions are lasting ones.

For this reason, many people are eagerly interested in ways that they can fix blemishes on their skin and especially on their face. One such blemish is broken capillaries. IPL treatment is a safe and noninvasive way to remove unsightly broken capillaries.

What is IPL Treatment?

IPL treatment is designed to use photon rejuvenation to repair and enhance damaged skin. It is noninvasive and safe. The procedure involves using light energy to address pigmentation concerns. These include age spots on the skin, sunspots, sun damage, fine lines, acne, warts, and broken capillaries.

How Does IPL Treatment Work?

IPL treatment works because of the way that the melanin in a person’s pigmentation and the hemoglobin in their blood interact with different wavelengths of light. The heat that is produced by light energy can dissolve pigmentation and can also cause blood vessels to shrink.

The heat also causes a person’s skin to create more collagen. Collagen is one of the basic building blocks used by the body to create human skin and other external structures.

As specific light waves are directed at the affected area, the discoloration caused by broken capillaries begins to dissipate. The results from the treatment are long-term, especially if you maintain a good skin care regimen.

What Happens During IPL Treatments?

At the outset, the practitioner who performs the procedure may test a small part of your skin. This test is done to make sure that you will not have any negative reactions to the treatment.

The length of the treatment is determined by the area that is being treated, as well as the severity of the problem that is being addressed.

Prior to beginning the treatment, you may be given sunglasses that will protect your eyes from the light that is generated. Pulsating light will be applied to the affected area. The wavelengths of the light are adjusted to match your particular skin care needs.

How Long is the Recovery Time?

One of the awesome things about IPL treatments is that they require little to no downtime. The treatment itself does not disrupt or damage the surface of your skin. So a person can have the procedure done during their lunch break and return to work as if nothing had happened.
